I don’t know why but these last two months my novel – The Orchid House – has been selling on Kindle especially in America. There’s been a distinct increase in sales which is very welcome but a complete mystery to me!
How do these things happen? I’ve no idea as I’ve done nothing to promote my sales on Kindle. The increase is not dramatic enough to get overly excited about – there’s certainly nothing viral going on – but in my world it’s significant. One thing I do know is that The Orchid House has always outsold my other Kindle titles. There could be a number of reasons for it selling on Kindle, here are some possibles
- it has a number of really good reviews.
- the cover is appealing, as are orchids
- the description of the novel – which could be better I think – still includes some powerful ideas and words ….’But the world of Trescombe is peopled with the ghosts of the Russell family and filled with echoes of her own tragedy. A tragedy that Roma is finally, only able to confront when she embarks on a dangerous and erotic affair which culminates in betrayal and forces her to flee her self- imposed exile.’
- It’s set in a lush, semi-tropical garden in Cornwall
- possibly more important than any of these; it’s a novel about, among other things, sexual obsession and sex sells.
But the increase in sales now? Who knows why a relatively unpromoted title starts selling on Kindle – maybe it’s the hot summer. Whatever the reason, I’m very grateful.
