On Doing Nothing

I spent the day yesterday de-cluttering my study and re-doing the pin boards – all very satisfying. I did some writing too.

Today I don’t feel like doing much at all and probably won’t!

I think we need to resist the idea that we must keep busy and be productive. It’s great to be active when we feel like it, but more importantly we need to do what feels right: curling up with a book, bingeing on catch-up or Netflix, baking, listening to the radio, chatting online with family or friends, sitting in the garden with a cup of tea…whatever floats our boat. We need to give ourselves permission. What we don’t need is to put ourselves under any more stress, by taking on unnecessary tasks.

I’m enjoying my small daily practices – like the Renga diary I’m keeping, especially some of the ‘found’ verse that I discover. Like this from naturalist and Guardian Country Diarist, Phil Gates on his Twitter account @WeardaleDiary
