The First Day of British Summer Time

and we woke to snow, just a skin on the car roofs and then flurries which quickly faded. There’s no snow now but the sky is an unrelenting grey.

Yesterday the day slipped away from me, spent in attending to things other than my own work and it was difficult for me to find time for myself, or for writing here. I have to admit I found it quite stressful and I realised that in these altered times what keeps me calm is having time to myself and having control over my daily routines and practices: my renga diary, ( a simple way to keep a diary in these extraordinary times) my postcard collage and my writing.

It seems to me we are all communicating more by message and email, so there is much more writing going on, its just that sometimes its not my own! In many ways I welcome this, especially the closeness I feel with friends and family despite our distance, the messages we’ve exchanged, the face time etc. the kindness that surrounds me. I know how fortunate I am. I never forget the most important blessings – I have a warm comfortable home, a loving family and a laptop! And for now at least I’m well.

As it happened, late on in the day, I found time to get to the short story I’m writing about a young girl on a sheep farm – its a slow burner but I saw it coming to a conclusion which is really only a new beginning and I began also to see new stories linking with it.

I’ll be writing more today and catching up with my diary. I’ll also be joining the StayAtHomeLitFest to listen to Anna Vaught, 5-6pm as she talks about the themes of mental illness in her book Saving Lucia and how her own history is threaded through. Below is over a week’s worth of my collaged postcards – in the future I hope to find a way to combine these with my words
