Kindle Fatigue

Thank you so much for all your lovely comments about my cover!

Is there such a thing as Kindle arm or for that matter Kindle eye? If so I’ve got both! I’ve spent too much time on the screen these last few days and as a consequence my arm aches from using the mouse and my right eye which struggles anyway is very tired. But on a brighter note my manuscript is uploaded to Kindle and almost ready to publish – just some minor adjustments to make. I’ve learned a lot and I will definitely be posting about it in the future. For now I’m keeping off the screen apart from this quick post. So here’s a poem I wrote when my daughter Katie came home and we were talking about the Mariana Trench and the X factor!

When You Are Home

After tea we sit in the conservatory

legs stretched out on sofas

look up at the sky through glass

and talk about the Mariana Trench

deep as Everest is high and more

your new job, my book

the Hikkaduwa reef

blind creatures of the sea bed,

the X factor and all the things we must

remember to speak about

that we have stored up, to be savoured

repeated, we share all

only blue carpet between us

a half empty wine bottle, glasses

ready for filling.

And as Jupiter appears in the night sky

I marvel at your beauty, newness, grown-up-ness,

feel the tectonic plates of my heart shift

in the Challenger Deep, of morning’s goodbye.

  1. I love your poem Avril. Wonderful to have these conversations with an adult daughter. Being so close is a treasure, as you express so well in the poem.

Book sounds great! Sorry to hear about hand and eye strain.

    1. Great to hear from you Ann – glad to know that at last you have power and are back to normal!
