On the eve of our RoomtoWrite, Beyond the Page – E-publishing Conference, at Whitworth Hall, Co Durham, it’s hard not to be excited by all the possibilities that the new model of e-publishing offers.
Having worked for some time with writers who take their work and their craft very seriously; who’ve had agents, submissions that have almost made it, success in competitions etc, but still no publishing contract, it’s a privilege to be offering them the means and confidence with which to publish their work.
The e-revolution is without doubt upon us and if you need convincing of the way the model works for writers then take a look at experienced and award winning novelist Catherine Czerkawska‘s post eBay and the eBook Revolution
Catherine says – ‘Last night, I came across a superb essay by Kristine Kathryn Rusch, characterising the way in which publishing is changing. It’s called ‘Scarcity and Abundance’ and it should be required reading for publishers and writers everywhere.I agree. It’s a fabulous piece and I urge you all to read it, long though it is. And if you are publishing an e-book it will gladden your heart. DONT MISS it.

Suddenly the world is simultaneously bigger and smaller! I have learned so much about e-books and am very enthused. I am keen to put my Scottish novel,’A Breeze from the Storm to Come’ onto Kindle so people can read it. Print on Demand may also be a way forward. When I have a little more time I would like to explore the possibility of publishing some of my poetry on Kindle.Many thanks to Wendy, Gillian and Avril for an inspiring weekend.

What a stimulating and rewarding weekend at Whitworth Hall Hotel. I was really looking forward to the conference on e-publishing as I do with each course that Room to Write organises. Avril, Wendy and Gillian – you are stars. I learned so much about how to put our novels onto Kindle,how to produce a hard copy on-line and then see your novel in paperback form, just like the glorious novel that you wrote and produced, Avril, called ‘The Orchid House’. It was fascinating to watch how you can produce your own cover and how to set up a blog. By the end of the weekend, I was inspired to set up my own blog and work hard to finish my first novel. Then I can put into practice what I have learned this weekend. You are so inspirational.
