I just keep watching this Boards of Canada video of Felix Baumgartners space leap and I know I’m going to write about it – somehow – although I’m not sure yet how or what. But what I will do is make that leap into fiction from the leap into space

As a genre, sci-fi has never turned me on. But I find one of Ian Bank’s stories memorable although I can’t remember the title of it. The the story is about a space walk. The twist in the tale being, the account one assumes to be the astronaut’s thoughts, are actually the ‘thoughts’ of the space suit, which has its own subjectivity and agency. The astronaut the space suit carries is revealed to the reader to be dead. A bizarre but fascinating idea I thought.
I’m not a sci- fi fan either but the story you mention sounds v. interesting. I think when I come to write about the space leap it will probably be in relation to a character whose feet are on the ground, although perhaps not firmly!
