‘I was brought up to believe that the worst thing you could do was “call attention to yourself,” or “think you were smart.”So says Alice Munro, today announced as the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature. Well that didn’t work then!
I love her writing and I think this prize, as well as being so thoroughly well deserved, is good for women and great for the short story, especially following on, as it does from Lydia Davis’s International Man Booker win
You can read an interview with Alice Munro in The New Yorker- HERE or her Paris Review interview- HERE
Here are my thoughts on why she’s so good from an earlier post
But better still read her stories – Congratulations to 2013 Nobel Prize Winner – Alice Munro
